Job description

Expertise in the splicing field (knowledge of UJ documentation, specific equipment, etc.).
Meaningful contribution to the creation of practical training modules.
Proficient with the information systems related to the role.
Jointing of submarine cables during deployments on board cable ships, barges and/or onshore routes.
Maintains  and  develops  skills  across  different connection  technologies  through  periodic training and attends courses to keep up with technical developments.
Maintains an event log and participates in drafting the operation report.
Performs various monitoring tasks depending on the type of operation (cable loading/offloading, transfer of equipment between the vessel and the depot or splicing laboratory, cable length tracking, section identification, etc.).
In liaison with the Splicing Team Leader, participates in maintaining splicing premises on vessels and in the laboratory, and in the maintenance and calibration of splicing equipment.
Provides support in the laying room or on the work deck and assists other onboard departments as required. 
Learns and applies safety procedures related to high-voltage cable systems (up to 12kV DC) and marine working environments. Installs ISR gear prior to the commencement of the repair.
Excellent housekeeping skills in maintaining cleanliness & tidiness of working areas

Minimum requirements

National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
Matric (Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science) with relevant experience will also be considered.
Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Ability to follow written procedures and construction manuals rigorously.
Good physical condition, able to pass SAMSA medical standards.
Openness to different working cultures, communication styles, and professional practices from colleagues of various nationalities.
