Job description
Responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and preventing pollution in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Ensure strict compliance with Safety, Environmental and Operational policies.
Manage vessel crew in accordance with the company’s policies with emphasis on drug and alcohol compliance.
Ensure that operations are carried out efficiently and as per client requirements.
Act as company representative in dealings with the client & external parties.
Strong focus on the training and development of Officers, Ratings, Cadets and Trainees.
Minimum requirements
Has a valid SAMSA Certificate of Competency as Master (STCW A-II/2).
Has at least 3 years experience in the position of Master on unlimited voyages.
Polar navigation experience will be advantageous.
Possesses an unrestricted SAMSA medical certificate
Is committed to extensive training to become familiar with the vessel operations.
Is willing and able to complete polar navigation training as well as the required sea time to obtain SAMSA Endorsement.
Is fluent in written and spoken English.
Has the ability to foster good relationships with clients and client personnel.
Displays strong SHE-Q awareness and compliance.
Displays good leadership abilities and alignment to company values.
Can effectively manage the crew and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Is assertive and a good decision maker.
Has strong administrative and report writing skills.
Can work under extreme pressure.
