Job description
Have knowledge and exposure of, and experience to maintain, fault find and where necessary, repair shipboard electrical equipment and systems.
Electronic control systems.
Diesel Electric Propulsion with associated Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and Convertors.
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Navigation equipment such as ECDIS, Radar and GMDSS equipment. Exposure to an integrated bridge system will be beneficial.
Internal communication networks (LAN).
Satellite communication systems.
Scientific and oceanographic research equipment such as CTD’s, echo sounders and associated devices.
Minimum requirements
Electro-Technical Rating STCW (A-III/7) Certificate of Competence.
Has a valid SAMSA medical certificate.
Has a valid South African passport.
Previous experience on offshore installations or ships as an electronic or electrical officer.
Exposure to high voltage installations.
Power generation and distribution equipment knowledge.
Microprocessor knowledge and understanding.
Computer literacy, including MS Office and Planned Maintenance System Applications.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Initiative and problem-solving abilities.
The ability to work independently and under pressure.
