We’re looking for a Cook who has the skills, competence and experience required to strengthen our value proposition, and who is looking for an opportunity to participate in the SANAE IV 2024/25 voyage.
Job description

Report to the CHEF in all related duties. 
Prepare all meals for 100 persons.
Create balanced and nutritious menus for all meals, considering dietary restrictions and preferences. 
Prepare and cook large quantities of food for each meal. 
Coordinate cooking times to ensure each meal is served on schedule. 
Ensure appropriate portion sizes and avoid waste while meeting nutritional needs. 
Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen by adhering to food safety regulations. 
Monitor stock levels of ingredients and kitchen supplies to prevent shortages. 
Ensure that kitchen equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained. 
Cater to any dietary restrictions or allergies (e.g., vegan, gluten-free, etc.). 
Keep detailed logs of inventory, purchases, and meal counts. 
Minimize food waste by using efficient cooking and storage techniques. 
Collaborate with CHEF for smooth meal deliveries. 
Assist CHEF in compiling the weekly report to the Departmental Co-ordinating Officer-in-Charge of the Voyage.

Minimum requirements

Certificate in Hospitality/ Catering/ Equivalent qualification in related field;
OR 
SAMSA-issued Certificate of Proficiency as Efficient Cook;
National Diploma in Hospitality/ Catering/ Equivalent qualification in related field (NQF 6) will be advantageous;
5 years’ experience in managing a Galley/ Kitchen and controlling stores efficiently.
Experience in the Antarctica (SANAE base) will be advantageous.
In possession of a valid passport (until March 2025).
Be 100% medically fit (selected candidates will undergo a medical examination).
Be willing to work long hours.
